 Hugo Schwyzer addresses the way language designed to help some people feel more comfortable about their bodies can make others feel ashamed. Why is it, for example, that a woman with breast implants may be said to have “fake boobs” while someone with fillings isn’t said to have “fake teeth”? He questions other cultural stereotypes about vanity and points out some of the implications about our assumptions of beauty.
